It’s hard to feel positive right now when so many of us across America have been personally affected by job loss. Of course the recent economic crisis is probably the biggest threat to job security but it’s certainly not the only one. Over the past decade we’ve seen many U.S. companies moving manufacturing and customer service overseas; Because of exponential advancements in technology, we now have students graduating from college with degree programs that may not be viable a few years down the road; Then there are those who after years of following a specific career path suddenly find themselves faced with the prospect of needing to stop, reflect and completely redirect.

But there is hope. Ok, I’m an optimist (guilty) but also having the right information and tools at hand will give you a definite advantage in helping you align your skills and interests with that of the future job market. According to former Secretary of Education Richard Riley many of the top jobs of 2010 didn’t even exist a mere six years ago!

This is the first of many blogs where I will be giving you advice and information about trends in the job market, identifying your unique talents and tips for finding a career path that will bring you the greatest potential for success. I hope you’ll find them helpful AND fun.

A few of you may remember a popular 80’s song by the band Timbuk3 (which BTW was quickly adopted as an optimistic anthem by more than one graduating class) “The Future’s so Bright I Gotta Wear Shades?”

Just hang in there. The future is bright if you just know where to look; and I’ll be with you step-by-step to help guide you in the right direction.

Now where are my sunglasses?
